7 Tips to Prepare Before and During Ramadan

by | March 23, 2018

Ramadan is well on it’s way, it is literally around the corner masha’Allah. As we continue preparing to welcome the month of the Qur’an I would like to share with you  7 Tips to Prepare Before and During Ramadan, in shaa Allah

1) Start by reciting the Qur’an. The best purifier of the heart is reciting the book of Allah. Make it a habit of reciting at least one page from the Qur’an a day. The more you can recite per day the better and easier it will be for you in Ramadan to finish the entire Qur’an once, twice or even three times. “Read the Quran, for it will come as an intercessor for it’s reciters on the Day of Resurrection.” Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

2) Reflect over the verses of the Qur’an. Reciting the Qur’an is a very virtuous act with immense reward. But it is not sufficient to just recite the Qur’an without understanding the meaning of what we are reciting. Let’s take about half an hour per day to go over some of the verses we did not understand.

Allah tells us in the Qur’an: “Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’an, or are there locks upon [their] hearts?” – Qur’an 47:24

Reflecting over the Qur’an and understanding the meaning of the verses will help us tremendously in Ramadan when we stand behind the imam while he is reciting in Taraweeh.

3) Fasting Mondays and Thursdays. Don’t wait until the last minute of Ramadan, start from now and fast Mondays and Thursdays or at least the three white days of the month (13,14, and 15). Fasting will help us be more patient, gain more piety and have sympathy for the less fortunate.

It was narrated that Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Prophet ﷺ was keen to fast on Mondays and Thursdays. – Narrated by al-Tirmidhi

4) Qiyaam-ul-lay! If we have not been praying qiyaam-ul-lay, let’s start by at least praying two rakats along with witr.

“The closest that the Lord is to his slave is in the last part of the night, so if you can be one of those who remember Allah at that time, then do so.” – Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

5) Forgive and have Mercy with one another! My brothers and sisters, Is this world really worth keeping grudges from one another and breaking up ties? Wouldn’t we want Allah to be Merciful and forgiving towards us? Let’s make a change by pardoning those who wronged us.

6) Increase remembrance of Allah and seeking forgiveness! Remembering Allah on a daily bases will help us focus on preparing for the Hereafter and not preoccupying ourselves with the temporary illusions and pleasures of this world.

Allah tells us [what means]: “…and remember Allah much that you may be successful” – Qur’an 8:45

Let’s follow the Sunnah of the prophet ﷺ as he used to repent to Allah (saying Astagfirullah) one hundred times each day as indicated in the hadith of Muslim.

7) Salah (Prayer)! Last but certainly not least, Salah plays a vital role in a Muslim’s life and nearing oneself to Allah. If you aren’t a praying Muslim, make a dedication to pray all the 5 salahs everyday. If you are a praying Muslim try to make it to the masjid as many salahs as you can a day.

Allah tells us “Indeed, those who belive and do righteous deeds and establish prayer and give zakah will have their reward with their Lord, and there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieves.” – Qur’an 2:277

Don’t wait for Ramadan to come. Start preparing now. Let’s make this Ramadan a special Ramadan where all of these ibadaat will be continuously done throughout the year in shaa Allah!

May Allah subhana wa taala accept our efforts, our fasting, our good deeds, forgive our sins and grant us all a prosperous, beneficial, fruitful, memorable Ramadan, Ameen.
