#RevertsMatters
#RevertsMatters
The countdown has officially begun…
I am extremely excited to be participating for the 2nd year in a row in the Embrace’s Converts Conference in Dallas, Texas. Let me start by sharing with you that so much has happened since last year. In just a few days we will be officially launching Embrace – A Project of ICNA during this year’s conference, bi’ithnillah.
#Embrace‘s Mission: To empower, embrace, integrate, nourish, and serve our diverse Muslim reverts by providing safe social spaces that encourage growth, shape their Islamic identity, and equip them with the knowledge they need for their lifetime journey.
For years this is something I have been praying to work on full-time. Many of you are familiar with my endless years of humanitarian, activism and dawah work both nationally and internationally. However, both my passion and work are not restricted solely to conveying the message of Islam by only giving “dawah”. As a matter of fact I have also been working with Revert Care for many years now. This passion has grown even stronger over the years because I personally know first hand the struggles we face upon embracing Islam both internal and external. Often time our busy schedules do not allow us to see the needs of those around us. Our Revert/Convert community is highly affected on various levels especially after embracing Islam. Many times we end up loosing friends, family, jobs and everything we ever knew. I have personally experienced it all from loosing my job for choosing to wear my hijab (headscarf) to loosing friends and family members. Understanding our needs has inspired me to embark on this new journey…
#Embraces Vision:
For Reverts to be Welcomed, EMBRACED and treated with Dignity, Equality and Respect.
With all that said, for the past few months I have been working endlessly and pouring my energy, heart and soul into the “Embrace” project along with other fellow Reverts who also have the desire and passion to serve, teach, nourish, empower and embrace our diverse Revert/Convert community in the DFW area. Thus far we have established our “Your Journey is Our Journey” halaqahs in two locations on different days. Our weekly halaqahs take place on Tuesdays for the Euless and surrounding areas and Wednesdays for the Richardson and surrounding areas. We also have monthly and seasonal potlucks designed for social interaction and networking. Many more activities and projects are being strategically planned for the various needs of our Revert/Convert diverse community.
Recently, I spoke at the ICNA-MAS National Convention in Baltimore, Maryland about Embrace. Everyone was receptive and ready for this project, as a matter of fact, I was told more than once, “it’s about time.” I couldn’t agree more, we have received an enormous amount of request to open chapters throughout the country. I pray that this becomes a reality in the coming months/years with your help and support. May we all grow compassion for each other and make this journey our own by joining the Embrace family, in shaa Allah. #OneUmmah
